It was the last opportunity I had this year to run a Half Marathon. The weather was cloudy but the temperatures were perfect. I felt really good today and approached the race with a positive attitude. Maybe I was also trying to redeem myself from my failure in Georgia a month ago. I still thrive on the energy of the starting line crowds!
The course ran us north through a few different neighborhoods, then crossed east through Brackenridge Park. I really enjoy the run through the park. After that, we turned south near the Navy base and returned to the downtown area.
The weather remained overcast and I started to feel thankful to not have the full force of the Texas sun shining on me.
I had a little bit of fun wearing a Dallas 5k shirt. It was my “mess with Texas” moment. I actually heard someone at a water stop make a joke “Come on San Antonians! Don’t let that guy from Dallas pass you!” This made my day.
One street near the end was “Mariachi Row” and featured about half a dozen mariachi bands cheering the runners on!
I finished the race strong! The training seems to be paying off. I am not trying for a good time, but I find the more work I put into training translates to these events being easier on my body. I treated myself to some Fajitas and then headed home.
