One of my partner’s favorite bands is 311 (pronounced “Three Eleven”). This group, founded in 1988, plays a mix of alternative rock, nu-metal, and some hybrids of rap+rock+raggae. I first became aware of the group in 1995 when my little brother purchased their self-titled album on compact disc. I generally like the unique sound of this group and own a Greatest Hits Vinyl Recordset.
With the end of lockdown, we decided to attend the bi-annual celebration on March 11 (get it? 3/11 day!). Hosted at the Park MGM Theater in Las Vegas, this 5800-seat venue sold out quickly and I am really glad I got tickets.
I gained a completely new-found respect for these artists. They have been together for more than 30+ years. Their sound has evolved and grown. They played over 40 songs per show during this two-night event.
One final thought. I had a bit of a “culture shock” as most of the audience was middle-aged or older. It shouldn’t be a surprise as most of us were teenagers in the 90s, but it was interesting to look around and see all the signs of aging from my fellow excitable crew.
Here is a video of some of my favorite songs:
