United States of America

The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles’ Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.

18 May 2017 – Whisk(e)y

I’ve been to the Jameson Distillery in Dublin, Ireland. There have been multiple tours (including Famous Grouse and the Scotch Whisky Experience) in and around Edinburgh, Scotland. I am pretty sure I have found my favorite in Scotland in the form of Glenfarclas 21 Year. I am not much of a drinker(a bottle of whiskey or rum lasts me about 6-8 months) because I...

30 April 2017 – Newport & Huntington Beach Training Run

I have one last week before an official race. In my current training plan I needed to knock out a good 12-14 mile long run. This is a time expensive training activity, usually costing a whole day so it tends to be a Saturday or Sunday. I took an Uber to a route along the beaches and PCH that I know has worked well in the past. The truth is running along the ocean...

26 March 2017 – Erie Canal Towpath Trail, Bolivar, Ohio – USA

I recently spent a week in Cleveland to work at a training conference. This is me working… As I am preparing for my next race in May, I needed to get in a nice long run. Ohio weather is unpredictable, but gave me a chance to hit up one of my favorite trails for a nice 7 mile jog. About 10 years ago I was really into mountain biking and used to finish off 25-40...

11 Mar 2017 – Puerto Rico – day 3

We started the day with a visit to the city of Ponce. The first stop was Castillo Serrallés. This mansion was built in 1930 and belonged to Sugar industry leader Don Juan Eugenio Serrallés. The Location also features a Japanese Garden, Butterfly display, and Large Cross. Next, we drove down to Paseo Tablado La Guancha, a fun little boardwalk good for food and people...

10 Mar 2017 – Puerto Rico Day 2

The day started with a mixology tour at the Bacardi distillery. I have enjoyed many adult beverage tours in Ireland and Scotland, but have never done one in the USA. High on my list has been the Bourbon trail in Kentucky. Second on that list is this place. Next we had a traditional Puerto Rican lunch. I had to explain to my friend the old 96er joke from The Great...

25 Feb 2017 – Using Rental Cars for a Muscle Car fix

I like muscle cars. I have my father to thank for that. When I was younger we would often go to car shows (such as the annual Atwood Lake Fall Fest). He would tell me of his glory days in the 60’s and 70’s and share all kinds of stories about the various cars we would see. For the longest time he had a dream to own a 1969 Dodge RT Charger. However, the...
