Back in December I was feeling a little nostalgic about my travels to Europe. Out of curiosity I looked on my favorite airline booking tools and found a really cheap airfare for a premium seat from LAX to AMS in January. I guess I wanted a short “mileage run” to help with the new year airline status goals and a few days of museums and food to help quench my wanderlust. This was a very spontaneous 3 day trip!
For the most part I spent the day, sunrise to sunset walking more than 15 Miles/ 24Kilometers. I looped between parks, cafes, museums, canals and train stations. Some locations still had Christmas lights up too. I enjoyed a breakfast of Avacado Toast with fresh local fish on top. I also had to have some Dutch French Fries (locally called Friets) – With MAYO on top?!?
The canal system of the city of Amsterdam is one of my favorite features to view and explore. I got to enjoy the sunrise at this part of the day too.
Continuing my walk I made it to Centraal station and then made my way along the western canals towards the palace and theaters.
Rounding out my day, I visited the local farmer’s tulip markets. Then, I took some time to ride the metro. I also paid a visit to the Heineken brewery.
It was one of the most beautiful days I have ever experienced in Europe, especially in Holland in January!
